About Me
Take off on a slab with a 6′ foamie at 54 after 3 years of surfing.
Once upon a time, I couldn’t touch my toes, and chairless cross-legged poses were a distant dream. At 40, a seasoned tech nerd yearning for something more intense, I stumbled into Hatha Yoga. I flew for a 3-month yoga retreat in South India, where I devoured many books on the subject. Fast forward a few years of asanas, breathing, and hours of practice: burnout! Harsh, humbling, yet oddly freeing. Yoga had helped, but something was missing. Still a nagging question: why were we contorting our bodies without understanding the science behind it?
My inner physicist craved more than incense and Sanskrit chants. I explored fiery Bikram, flowing Ashtanga, and many others up to a yoga teacher training. But the gap between physical practice and the ultimate goal of Yoga—Enlightenment or liberation—felt vast. Every “om” echoed a nagging question: where’s the science? Why are we contorting our bodies without understanding the mechanics? Why don’t we treat yoga like an experiment, a fascinating exploration of human potential fueled by data and reason?
So, I took a leap, diving headfirst into neuroscience. Prof. White’s “Medical Neuroscience” on Coursera unlocked a new point of view, enabling me to understand the top minds in the field. I even participated in many research, getting my hands dirty in the world of neurons and synapses. To feel the field, I chose to be a guinea pig for theta burst TMS, 7 Tesla MRI, and many others more conventional.
My quest? Bridging the gap between old yoga and new science, unlocking the mysteries of movement, debunking the woo-woo, and proving that even the stiffest can bend gracefully and recover from traumas.
6 years ago, at 51, surfing became my playground, while anatomy, physiology, and proprioceptive neurofacilitation formed the pillars of my unique, evolving yoga method. Today, the chair is a relic of the past, even a tripalum for some of them. My body moves with newfound freedom, fueled by a potent blend of science and ancient wisdom. And guess what? My method is working, and I feel 20 years less.
Still, my journey is far from finished because the original trauma is deep inside, but I am confident that I can resolve it 🤙
